Academic education is one of the three pillars of university medicine along with research and clinical patient care. The Department of Blood Group Serology and Transfusion Medicine is involved in a variety of ways in student education and postgraduate training ranging from the teaching of clinically important fundamentals of immunohematology and transfusion medicine to special topics in transplantation immunology, stem cell transplantation and clinical hemotherapy.

Lehre

Research-led teaching

Student education is based on the Med Uni Graz biopsychosocial model, which values a high degree of interdisciplinarity and patient orientation. The most important learning formats are our special study module (SSM) 30) and required module XXI. The latter is held in cooperation with the Division of General Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine. Special attention is paid to teaching practical skills for performing blood transfusions. Furthermore, the cooperation with the local Clinical Skill Center (CSC) on the objective structured clinical examination (OSCE) is excellent. Research-led teaching finds its particular expression in the electives we offer in immunohematology, immunogenetics and stem cell biology. In addition, students receive instruction on how to conduct scientific research as part of diploma theses.

Weiterbildung

Postgraduate training

The wide range of professional development opportunities at the Medical University of Graz is directed at a variety of occupational groups in the fields of medicine, science and research, nursing and health services. Most of the professional development courses can be completed while the participant is regularly employed and provide him/her with a valuable additional qualification.

Rotations

Famulatur

Students from Austria

Rotations at University Hospital Graz by students enrolled at an university in Austria are organized in coordination with the head of the department.

Famulatur

Students from abroad

Rotations at University Hospital Graz by international students (home university abroad) are only possible as part of a mobility program (e.g., Erasmus+). All requests must go through the Med Uni Graz International Office. At peripheral KAGes hospitals, rotations can be organized directly by students. If a Med Uni Graz confirmation is required, students must fulfill the requirements of the mobility program and register in the Med Uni Graz International Office before the stay starts.
